This article is unfortunately written in approximate French, rendering it somewhat hard to understand in some instances. Hopefully someone with appropriate military and linguistic knowledge will eventually review it... Thanks anyhow to its author for a useful piece of information.

At issue is the name of Canadian infantry and armoured regiments. None of these units are bilingual - they are all either French-language units or English-language units. Their name is a "proper noun" and is NOT translated, in either language. THis is Canadian Forces policy (look at any press release, and how the names of infantry and armoured units are handled). It is also simple common sense. George Bush does not become "Georges Buisson" in French. In the case of the Royal 22e Régiment, it was initially the Royal 22nd Regiment, but in 1926 the name was officially changed by Royal decree to "Royal 22e Régiment". Likewise all other French-language traditional units have no English translation.

Thus the name of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry remains untranslated in French. This poses a problem. An expert has to (1) change the name of the main page from the bastardised French version to "Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry" - which unfortunately already exists, but is a link to this present page. (2)THen new links must be established to the new "Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry" from all the other pages, including PPCLI and the various French translations.

I attempted a fix, but I am not sufficiently skilled. I therefore went back to the current version. EST-CE QUE QUELQU'UN PEUT AIDER EN FAISANT LES CHANGEMENTS DÉCRITS CI-HAUT?

Je pense que c'est réglé. Amqui (d) 25 janvier 2011 à 02:45 (CET)Répondre
