English: View from the top of the site of the Veps Forest reserve. Nature Park Veps Forest is a specially protected natural area of regional significance with an area of 190 thousand hectares. It was established in 1999 by the government of the Leningrad Region. Location: located in the north-west of the East European Plain, within the Vepsov Upland, in the east of the Leningrad Region. The Veps forest has preserved pristine forest tracts, ecological systems almost untouched by economic activity. The unique territory has a hilly terrain, dozens of mountain lakes at an altitude of 200-250 m above sea level, a multitude of rivers. Almost half of it is covered with very rare in the north-west old, age spruce forests and pine forests, which sheltered under their cover many endangered, "Red Book" plants. At present, there is almost no undisturbed forest in the Leningrad Region. The last sections of middle-aged virgin spruce forests on the eastern border of the region are taken under protection in the territory of the Veps Forest Nature Park. According to them one can judge the appearance of the primeval taiga, once occupying most of the region. The age of almost all spruce stands exceeds 150 years. A considerable area is occupied by native spruce forests at the age of 200-270 years, which are in different phases of natural cyclic dynamics. Among the pine forests occupying about 25% of the forest area, swampy areas prevail. In the western and southern part of the reserve there are birch young animals formed on the site of solid felling. East of the Leningrad Region, Podporozhsky District.
