The spillway is designed to spill water from the river into Lake Pontchartrain during high water levels the river to prevent flooding. The huge Shell Norco refinery can be seen at the bottom of the picture. The spillway is located about 12 miles (20km) west (upriver) of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. View is upriver to the west. |
