| Description |
Español: GFC (Global Forest Change) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2000-2012. Loss/year per 2 km per pixel. Loss is aggregated to 2-km pixels to enhance display, and converted to a yearly loss rate for comparability between periods. To counteract the effect of low loss rates for pixels with low year 2000 forest cover appearing dark green, and thus implying (with this color scale) dense forest, per-pixel transparency was set to the inverse proportion of year 2000 forest cover.
For year 2000 forest cover, we aggregated pixels from GFC with forest cover >50% (displayed in lower left inset). Thus, a 2-km pixel with year 2000 forest cover of 25% will display significantly faded, at 75% transparent. Provincial loss rates are mapped in the inset map.
