Description
English: Firefighters continue efforts to mitigate the fire that started near the town of Alexandroupoli and has already spread to the Evros region reaching the vicinity of the towns of Kotronia and Dadia where efforts are intensifying. The Dadia forest is severely affected and remains at risk if the wind picks up. On Monday 28 August, 474 firefighters, 100 vehicles, 4 fixed-wing airplanes and 2 helicopters continued to battle the fire that has already claimed the lives of more than two dozen people. On 28 August, one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites captured this image of the entire affected area where the burnt scar is visible. According to the EMSR686 Rapid Mapping analysis of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, the affected area already amounts to 80,873 hectares.
