English: Map of the Kobanî Canton on April 29, 2015, after the Siege of Kobanî. The siege of the Canton had largely ended nearly a week earlier, and YPG-led forces broke through ISIL defense lines in the city of Sarrin on April 25, bringing the Battle of Sarrin to the suburbs of the city itself. At this point, the YPG and FSA forces had recaptured 339 of the 350 villages in the Kobanî Canton from ISIL, with 10 villages remaining under ISIL control in the Canton's eastern frontier, the city of Sarrin under ISIL control in the southern part of the Canton, and another nearby village under ISIL assault. Since the ISIL assault began in September 2014, ISIL had suffered nearly 5,000 casualties in clashes that the broke out in the Kobanî Canton, especially around the city of Kobanî and Sarrin.
