English: Scale surface of Moloch horridus. Scanning electron microscope. The honeycomb-like ornamentation renders the surface extremly hydrophilic, allowing the thorny devil to have a thin water film on its skin after a shower, misty morning etc. The water is then sucked into small interscalar channels, which transport the water to the mouth of the devil by capillary forces.
