English: 'Tapestry commemorating the visit to Italy of Adolf Hitler, 1938:' Roma; Italia; Berlin; Deutschland; Napoli; Nürnberg.Benito Mussolini made a state visit to Germany 27-30 September 1937. Hitler went to Italy in May, 1938. The tapestry depicts the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument (Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, with Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Tomba del Milite Ignoto) in Rome and the (Brandenburger Tor) with fountain on the Pariser Platz Square in Berlin, etc.
TAPESTRY FOR HITLER’S VISIT. This tapestry was woven to commemorate Hitler’s six-day state visit to Italy in May 1938. He did not visit as Mussolini’s guest but as that of Italy’s King, Victor Emmanuel III. One year after the friendly sojourn, Germany and Italy signed the Pact of Steel, an alliance that stipulated that the countries would aid each other in a time of war. Barely 18 months after enacting the Pact of Steel, Germany invaded Poland.
Photo taken in 2015 showing items from the former International Museum of World War II in Natick, Massachusetts, a few miles west of Boston. The museum existed from 1999 to 2019 and housed a by-reservation-only exhibition of memorabilia and militaria consisting of over 7,000 artifacts, 100 uniforms, books, photos, etc.
