English: The Plage de Sana is the northernmost of the sand and pebble beaches in the French south coast resort of Banyuls-sur-Mer. It is separated from the beach beyond (the Plage des Elmes) by the small headland in this image, which is depicted on IGN maps as "Cap des Elmes" (or "Punta del Mig" - the "Midway Promontory").
The geological formations in this area are of lower Cambrian age (c500 Ma). They consist mainly of banded metasediments which were highly deformed during the Hercynian orogeny about 300 million years ago. Some of these beds are exposed clearly in the cliffs of Cap des Elmes. The latter is shown on the geological map as coinciding with a narrow zone which contains veins of intrusive igneous rocks.
