Les unités listées dans les tableaux ci-dessous ont servi l'armée de l'Union pendant la guerre de Sécession.
Infanterie
modifierL'État de New York a levé durant la guerre de Sécession pas moins de 206 régiments d'infanterie de volontaires. La grande majorité de ces régiments n'étaient qu'à un seul bataillon . Ces bataillons de volontaires sont souvent appelés avec le numéro d'ordre de création du régiment suivi du nom de l'État (ici «New York») et suivi de «Volunteer Infantry». Certains de ces régiments n'ont pas réussi à compléter les cadres ou les effectifs prévus et ont été amalgamés dans d'autres régiments (par exemple, le 31st New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment qui a été amalgamé dans le 5th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment). D'autres régiments ont été convertis de l'infanterie vers d'autres armes telles que l'artillerie ou le corps des ingénieurs, en fonction des besoins ou de l'urgence comme pour la défense de Washington.
