Matthew Christopher Grau (né le ), connu sous le nom de Matt Ox, est un rappeur et chanteur américain originaire de Philadelphie. Il est surtout connu pour son single de 2017 Overwhelming, et pour avoir participé au titre $$$, certifié platine en 2018, sur le deuxième album de XXXTentacion ? (2018).

Ox est né en 2004[1]. Il est originaire de Lawncrest (Philadelphie) (en)[2]. Ox commence à pratiquer le hip-hop à l'âge de 11 ans. Il est scolarisé à domicile depuis ce moment[3].

Carrière

Ox a 12 ans lorsqu'il publie le clip du single Overwhelming en 2017, avec une instrumentation d'Oogie Mane[3],[1]. Il sort des singles avec Warner avant de signer avec Motown en 2018[3]. En mars 2018, il collabore avec le rappeur XXXTentacion sur la chanson $$$, qui figure sur son deuxième album, ?[4]. Son premier album, Ox, sort le . Il comprend 11 chansons de moins de trois minutes et comporte trois chansons avec Chief Keef, Key ! et Valee (en)[5],[6]. Il est produit par Working on Dying, une équipe de production basée à Philadelphie[1].

Il sort la mixtape Sweet 16 le . Il sort son premier EP le , un EP de 5 titres intitulé Unorthodox. La mixtape et l'EP ne comportent aucune apparition d'autres artistes. Le deuxième album d'Ox, Year Of The Ox, sort le . Lancey Foux et UnoTheActivist (en) y sont invités.

Style

La musique d'Ox est qualifiée de « trap sombre »[7]. Parmi ses artistes préférés figurent Soulja Boy et Lil B[3],[8].
