Northwest Aroostook (littéralement en français : Nord-Ouest d'Aroostook) est une zone non incorporée (en anglais : unincorporated area) du nord-est des Etats-Unis située dans le nord de l'Etat du Maine et dans le nord-ouest du comté d'Aroostook le long de la frontière américano-canadienne.
Géographie modifier
Localisation modifier
La zone non incorporée est située dans le nord-est des Etats-Unis, au nord de l'Etat du Maine, occupant une zone très peu densément peuplée entre les provinces canadiennes du Québec et du Nouveau-Brunswick.
Avec une superficie de 691 320 hectares, c'est la plus grande entité du comté et du Maine. En comparaison, les trois plus grandes entités après Northwest Aroostook dans le comté sont Central Aroostook, Square Lake et South Aroostook s'étendant respectivement sur 146 870 hectares, 107 330 hectares et 95 440 hectares.
La zone non incorporée est même plus grande que l'un des Etats des Etats-Unis, celui du Rhode Island, et est aussi grand que le département français des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Entités limitrophes modifier
La zone non incorporée est limitrophe de plusieurs entités de la province canadienne du Québec ; du sud-ouest au nord-est : Saint-Just-de-Bretenières, Lac-Frontière, Saint-Adalbert, Saint-Pamphile, Saint-Omer, Petit-Lac-Sainte-Anne, Mont-Carmel, Picard, Saint-Athanase et Pohénégamook. De l'ouest à l'est : Rivière-Bleue.
Avec la province canadienne du Nouveau-Brunswick, elle est limitrophe de la paroisse de Saint-François.
Dans l'Etat du Maine, la zone non incorporée est limitrophe des entités suivantes ; dans le comté Aroostook : Saint Francis, Allagash, Saint John Plantation, Wallagrass (quadripoint), Eagle Lake, Winterville Plantation, Square Lake, Portage Lake, Nashville Plantation, Garfield Plantation, Ashland (quadripoint), Masardis, Swett Farm Township et Oxbow North Township.
Au sud, elle est limitrophe des comtés de Penobscot et de Piscataquis ; dans ce dernier, elle est limitrophe des deux entités suivantes : Northeast Piscataquis et Northwest Piscataquis.
Enfin, elle est limitrophe de Big Ten Township dans le comté de Somerset.
