Systématique et taxinomie
modifierCe genre a été décrit par Pocock en 1890.
Heterobuthus[5] a été placé en synonymie par Thorell en 1893[6].
Riftobuthus[7] a été placé en synonymie par Kovařík, Lowe, Plíšková et Šťáhlavský en 2016[8].
