Eckhart Tolle, whose real name is Ulrich Leonard Tolle, born February 16, 1948 in Lünen (Germany), is a Canadian writer and lecturer of German origin, author of the bestsellers The Power of the Present and New Earth.

Tolle recounts that he felt depressed for the first part of his life until he experienced an "inner transformation"; at the age of 29, after which he spent several years without work wandering "in a state of profound happiness"; before becoming a spiritual teacher. Later, he moved to North America where he began writing his first book, Le Pouvoir du moment présent, which was published in 1997 in the United States and became an international bestseller translated into 33 languages1. Tolle then moved to Vancouver, Canada, where he has lived ever since.
