Tashi et Nungshi Malik (nées le 21 Juin 1991) sont les premières soeurs et jumelles à compléter le challenge des Sept sommets, à atteindre les pôles nord et sud, et à compléter le grandchelem des aventuriers Adventurers Grand Slam et le challenge des trois pôles Three Poles Challenge.

Jeunesse et carrière modifier

Les jumelles Malik (Tashi and Nungshi) sont originaires de l'état de Haryana et résident désormais à Dehradun en Inde.[1] Elles sont filles d'un ancien officier de l'armée Indienne, Col Virendra Singh Malik, natif du village de Anwali [2], et de son épouse Anjoo Thapa. La famille Malik s'est installée à Dehradun après que Col Malik ait quitté l'armée Indienne.[3] Elles ont été scolarisées dans plusieurs écoles dans les états de Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Kerala et Manipur, dont la Lawrence School, Lovedale, dans les environs de Ootacamund. De Juillet 2009 à Janvier 2013, elles ont étudié à Sikkim Manipal University d'où elles ont toutes deux été diplômées en Journalisme et Communication de masse.[4]

Après l'Everest, les soeurs jumelles ont complété avec succès la #mission2for7, en conquérant les plus hauts sommets des sept continents pour la cause de la fille Indienne avec pour visions:

  • Promouvoir l'alpinisme en tant que sport à travers des exploits
  • Encourager Indienne à poursuivre et réaliser ses rêves
  • Réaliser des victoires au nom de la fille Indienne

Le 16 décembre 2014, Nungshi et Tashi gravissent le Mont Vinson en Antarctique, complétant leurs sept sommets et devenant, ainsi, les premières soeurs jumelles à conquérir:

  • Mai 2013: Mt Everest (plus haut sommet d'Asie et au Monde)
  • Août 2013: Mt Elbrus (plus haut sommet d'Europe)
  • Janvier 2014: Mt Aconcagua (plus haut sommet d'Amérique du Sud)
  • Mars 2014: Mt Carstensz Pyramid (plus haut sommet d'Australie)
  • Juin 2014: Denali (plus haut sommet d'Amérique du Nord; elles ont été les plus jeunes et la 2ème paire de jumeaux au monde à gravir ce sommet)
  • Février 2012 et 03 Juillet 2015: Mt Kilimanjaro (plus haut sommet d'Afrique)


En gravissant ensemble chacun de ces sommets, elles deviennent les premières soeurs et jumelles à accomplir le challenge des sept sommets.

Après les sept sommets, elles atteignent en ski le Pôle Sud le 28 décembre 2014 et le Pôle nord aussi en ski le 21 Avril 2015 et complètent ainsi le grand chelem des explorateurs sous la mission#UnchaiyonSeAage ( au délà des hauteurs)[5]. En plus d'être les premières soeurs et jumelles au monde, elles sont les plus jeunes à compléter ce grand chelem, et les premières femmes Indiennes et originaire d'Asie du Sud à atteindre cette distinction. [6]

Elles aspirent par ailleurs à contribuer à la paix par leurs aventures. Aussi, ont-elles planté planté avec Samina Baig du Pakistan les drapeux de leurs pays pays respectifs sur le sommet de l'Everest en signe de leur déterminiation à contributer à la paux entre les deux nations. 

  They also wish to contribute to peace through adventure. Together with Samina Baig of Pakistan, they hoisted their national flags on Everest to mark their unflinching resolve to work for peace between the two nations. And they see gender challenges as one of their common enemy. "Our women face similar gender challenges; let's fight them together ...if our women progress, our societies will. And peace is assured!" said Samina, Tashi & Nungshi on the eve of their final push for the summit![7]

In Apr 2015, the twins started NungshiTashi Foundation with the objective to make India an Outdoor Nation and empowering women through adventure sports. In Oct 2018, they co-founded India's first and only of its kind outdoor education institute called Outdoor Leadership School (OLS) to build life skills through great outdoors. They're are currently engaged in mainstreaming adventure sports in India's education system. www.outdoorleaderhipschool.org

Motivational Speakers. The twin sisters are exceptional public speakers and have delivered motivation talks for most reputed corporate and academic organisations such as Tata Group, Godrej Group, Aditya Birla Group, Nomura Bank, DHL, Harvard University, WE Day Talk in Wembley Stadium London, TED talk, TEDx talks and have appeared on Television interviews for BBC Impact, Norway, New Zealand, NDTV, ZEE TV and Doordarshan among others.

Explorers grand slam modifier

They trained hard at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in 2010.[3] On Sunday, 19 May 2013, they successfully scaled Mount Everest, becoming the first twin sisters in the world to do so.[8][9] They were joined at the summit by Samina Baig and they placed national flags of India and Pakistan close together to spread peace between the two countries.[10][11][12] 'Climbathon 2013' The twin sisters scaled a virgin peak at 21000 ft funded by Indian Mountaineering Foundation in Aug 2013. Guinness World Records has featured the twin sisters in its 60th edition as first female twins to scale Everest together and in its 2016 issue as the first twins and siblings to complete Seven Summits.[13] On 16 December 2014, after climbing Mt Vinson in Antarctica, they became world's first twins and siblings to scale the 'Seven Summits' together.[14][15] A summary of Tashi and Nungshi Malik's mountaineering and adventure milestones is given below:

  • Conferred India's highest adventure honour 'Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award' 2015 by the President of India on 29 August 2016[23][24]
  • On 23 October 2016, awarded 2016 Leif Erikson Young Explorer Award in Husavik, by the President of Iceland[25]
  • Awarded Edmund Hillary Fellowship in 2018
