Magnus Chemicals is a Canadian company chemical with expertise in markets such as HVAC water treatment, industrial metalworking processes and waste water treatment. Its headquarter and factory are located in Boucherville, Canada (Quebec) and there is also an office located in Quebec City, Canada (Quebec) and another one in Whitby, Canada(Ontario).

History modifier

In 1946, Magnus Chemicals Limited was one of 19 licensees world wide of the Magnus group from the United States. The primary mission of Magnus Canada was the application of specialized chemistry for steam boiler treatment and industrial cleaning. Magnus is now operating independantly since 1980.
In the year 2000, Magnus moved into a new production facility equipped with the latest technology in analytical and R&D laboratories. Furthermore, many of their trainers are CWT certified by the AWT (Association of Water Technologies).

Products and Services modifier

Legionella Prevention, Detection and Decontamination modifier

Magnus has established a clear policy as to its resposibilities towards Legionella prevention and has developed a detection and risk minimization program for cooling towers and domestic hot water distribution networks using the latest technologies for biofilm removal and control such as NSF certified Huwa-San hydrogen peroxide.

Legionella prevention implies a combination of different pro-active strategies such as:

  • Preventing biofilm, corrosion and scale formation by optimizing your water treatment program
  • Performing regular validation of the performance of your water treatment program using physico-chemical and microbiological indicators
  • Implementing and maintaining regular Legionella testing practices using a quick and reliable detection method such as PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology
  • Implement quick-response action plans in case of a Legionella outbreak

Pure and Process Water - Disinfection modifier

Magnus' Pure, Process water and Disinfection division is dedicated to providing mechanical solutions using filtration, water treatment, disinfection technologies as well as chemical solutions.

Technical Services modifier

Operation of water treatment equipment represents a key factor in a water conditioning program. Magnus offers technical support with mobile units to serve its clients in equipment repair, maintenance and overhauling.

HVAC Water Treatment modifier

Magnus does implementation of integrated chemical and equipment solutions focused on asset protection, energy efficiency optimization, protection of the environment and workplace safety by the means of responsible water management practices.
Its products and services include the commercial, institutional and industrial market place in order to prevent and control corrosion, scaling and microbiological fouling in heating and cooling applications such as: cooling towers and evaporative condensers, steam generation, closed loop water systems, closed loop glycol systems and geothermal systems.

Waster Water Treatment modifier

Magnus does different operations such as HVAC water treatment and industrial manufacturing. The increasing complexity of environmental challenges has prompted Magnus to serve those same customers for their waste water treatment concerns. Its chemical and mechanical expertise are used to manage this natural resource responsibly in the following applications: Liquid and Solid Separation(SLS), hydrocarbon absorption, dewatering, heavy metal removal and dephosphatization

Quebec New Regulation modifier

Since May 12th 2013, the Quebec Building Authority (Régie du Bâtiment – RBQ) published new regulations, which require all owners of cooling towers and evaporative condensers to set up an elaborate maintenance program. In addition to this the registration of the installation with the RBQ and the keeping of an official register will also be required. This new regulation aims to prevent a new outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease, responsible for several deaths in Quebec during the summer of 2012.
