Biography

Paris-born Grégoire Hetzel is a César Awards nominated music composer who emerged onto the film scene in the early 2000s scoring movies by acclaimed french directors Arnaud Desplechin (Ismael's Ghosts, My Golden Days for which he is nominated at César 2016, Kings and Queen, A Christmas Tale) , Denis Villeneuve (Incendies), Mathieu Amalric (The Blue Room), Catherine Corsini (Summertime, Three Worlds) and Emmanuel Bourdieu (Céline).

A former student of Paris Conservatory, Grégoire Hetzel started his performing career whilst performing on the piano to silent films at the French Cinémathèque. Having been called a soulchild of Georges Delerue, Hetzel is versatile and able to shift from pop music scores to electronic soundscapes, writing big symphonic scores as well as folk tunes – which he did for the French-australian movie The Tree, directed by Julie Bertuccelli, and for which he is nominated at César 2011. Grégoire also scored movies from Denis Villeneuve (Incendies – nominated at Oscars 2011), Emmanuel Mouret (Another Life) and Mathieu Demy (Americano).

Grégoire also produced and arranged French singer Marie Modiano’s first album, 'I’m Not A Rose'. In 2013, he wrote his first opera La Chute de Fukuyama, along with French writer Camille de Toledo. The piece was premiered in Paris at Salle Pleyel with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and received great reviews.
