Les formalités de Visa pour les citoyens Chinois sont de nature administrative, les restrictions d'entrée imposées aux citoyens de la Chine dépendent des autorités des autres états. Selon l'Index des restrictions de Visa de 2016, les détenteurs de passeport Chinois peuvent entrer sans visa ou reçoivent un visa à l'arrivée dans 50 pays et territoires, le passeport chinois est classé 87e dans le ranking mondial (à égalité avec le Cambodge). Le Ministère des Affaires étrangères de la République populaire de Chine, cependant, énumère 56 pays et territoires à compter du 1er juin 2016. Avant février 2014, les autorités chinoises de l'immigration ne permettaient pas de monter à bord des vols les citoyens sans un visa valide pour le pays de destination, même si le pays de destination accorde un visa à l'arrivée à moins que la sortie ai été approuvée par le ministère de la Sécurité publique. Des Exceptions sont possibles si le voyageur avait le visa d'un troisième pays et un vol de connexion vers ce pays tiers.
