Building

modifier

The ArtLab building, inaugurated in 2016, is an architectural art project conceived and performed by a Japanese artist, Kengo Kuma, a winner of the competition launched in 2012[1][2]. The building is composed of 3 distinct spaces:

  • Building A - a DataSquare - located in the northern part of the ArtLab building, DataSquare hosts temporary and long-term exhibitions as well as conferences, artistic performances organized by ArtLab and the College of Humanities at EPFL[3].
  • Building B - a museum experimentation space - this space hosts temporary exhibitions whose aim is to enhance and promote a scientific, artistic, historical, and cultural heritage through the use of the technological solutions[3],
  • Montreux Jazz Café - located in the southern part of the ArtLab building, this café-restaurant stores the audio-visual archives of the Montreux Jazz festival, the result of the Montreux Jazz Digital Project led by Metamedia Center in collaboration with several EPFL laboratories. These digitalized archives, including 5,000 festival concerts available to the public, thanks to the variety of audio and visual devices, provide a total immersion experience in the Montreux Jazz festival[3].
