How to get my own texts in the French Wikipedia?? modifier

Hi Guys,

Hope somebody can help me here... I'm a conference organizer, organizing a yearly software developer conference. The programming-language is quite unique, a niche product, so a wikipedia-page is in place for this. There's a page for the conference in English and in German, all without problems. The French one is causing difficulties... they ask me put my texts under some GNU-license, but the website for the conference is mine, the organization is mine, I've written all the texts... how can there be a copyright-infringement? I do not want to make all my text freely available to everybody, there are pictures on the site that are copyrighted... Anybody know what to do to get this page on the French Wikipedia, or at least how to satisfy certain administrators as apparently some administrators do have problems with the text, other administrators don't...?

Hi Fred, Once you understand what the GNU-license mean and you agree with it for some of your texts, you can simply add a little notice to it. like, I don't know : " Les textes de cette page sont publié sous licence GNU de documentation libre " with your name or nickname [1]. I know it's completely ridiculous for text like "about us", but it is the law and some of us tend to apply it a bit (or two) too much blindly. There is no such thing like fair use in French laws. I'm not fully used of the copyright issues on wikipedia, but it should do the trick. Iluvalar (d) 12 avril 2009 à 23:10 (CEST)
Actually, there's a French equivalent to the fair use act: see Fair use#Équivalence_en_France. Oh well, I don't understand what the issue is here: insofar as you're the copyright holder of the texts (you wrote them on your own, did you?), there are no problems publishing them here. However, please understand that once you published your texts on Wikipedia, no matter the text is copyrighted on your website, you irrevocably release them under a GFDL license, and you cannot restrict their use according to the license terms. →Diti le manchot — 12 avril 2009 à 23:28 (CEST)

Wikimedia Conference Japan modifier

Hello, this is most likely relevant to French speaking Wikipedians living inside/near Japan. I would like to let you know about Wikimedia Conference Japan. This is a local version of the Wikimania conference in Japan. It is scheduled to be held sometime during 21-23 November this year in Tokyo, Japan (most likely to be one-day long). The details are being worked out at meta:Wikimedia Conference Japan and the mailing list, and the relevant translations are provided in meta:Wikimedia Conference Japan/en, meta:User:Makotoy/Wikimedia Conference Japan. Although a major potion of the participants is expected to be Japanese, we would like to have non-Japanese speaking presenters and/or audiences as much as possible. For example comparison between different language editions would be a great enlightenment to largely monolinguistic Japanese users. Please feel free to contact us in the talk pages or through wikimail. Air France HQ: Photo request modifier

Oil wells and refineries France map-fr.svg modifier

Hi. I was wondering if this image Oil wells and refineries France map-fr.svg is the same it is being used here in this site. If it is the same, they would have to cite the source which is wikipedia, would not? AF headquarters question modifier

Is this the AF headquarters building? http://www.flickr.com/photos/ettorephotos/3173333343/ - If so, I think I will be able to upload this to Wikipedia on fair use grounds, as French law states that photos of recently built buildings are copyrighted. This looks like effectively as Air France headquarters building in the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. But don't upload it on Commons, as there's no freedom of Panorama in France, only on en.wp under fair use conditions. Guérin Nicolas (messages) 11 septembre 2009 à 08:51 (CEST)
