Ballyfermot (en irlandais : Baile Formaid) est une banlieue de Dublin, en Irlande. Elle est située à sept kilomètres à l'ouest du centre-ville, au sud du Phoenix Park. Elle est bordée par Chapelizod au nord, Bluebell au sud, Inchicore et Kilmainham à l'est, et Palmerstown et Cherry Orchard à l'ouest. La Liffey coule au nord, et le Grand Canal, aujourd'hui une voie navigable récréative, coule au sud de Ballyfermot. Ballyfermot se trouve dans le district postal "Dublin 10".

Toponymie

Le toponyme Ballyfermot, transcrit en irlandais Baile Formaid^[1] et parfois Baile Thormaid^[2], dérive du moyen irlandais baile (« ferme »)^[3] et du nom de personne vieux norrois Þormundr^[4]. Les Dublinois l'appellent aussi familièrement Ballyer^[5].
