Donald Arthur Carson, né le , est un théologien et exégète évangélique baptiste. Il est professeur émérite de Nouveau Testament à la Trinity Evangelical Divinity School et président et cofondateur du mouvement évangélique The Gospel Coalition connu en francophonie sous le nom Évangile 21. Il a écrit ou édité une soixantaine de livres et est actuellement président de l'Evangelical Theological Society[1].

Carson a été décrit comme l'un des spécialistes majeurs du nouveau testament dans le monde évangélique contemporain[2],[3]. Il a écrit sur un large éventail de sujets, notamment le Nouveau Testament, l'herméneutique, la théologie biblique, le Nouveau Testament grec, l'utilisation de l'Ancien Testament dans le Nouveau.

Biographie modifier

Il a étudié en sciences à l’Université McGill et a obtenu un bachelor of Science en 1967, puis a étudié en théologie au Heritage College and Seminary (Association des Églises baptistes évangéliques au Canada) et a obtenu un master (Master of Divinity) en 1970[4]. Il a également obtenu un doctorat en philosophie du Nouveau Testament de l’Université de Cambridge en 1975.

Ministère modifier

En 1975, il devient professeur de Nouveau Testament au Northwest Baptist Seminary (Association des Églises baptistes évangéliques au Canada) de Langley[4]. En 1978, Carson rejoint la Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, séminaire évangélique situé à Deerfield, IL dans la banlieue de Chicago[5].

En 2005, Carson fonde le mouvement évangélique The Gospel Coalition avec le pasteur Tim Keller. La Gospel Coalition est connue pour sa promotion du New Calvinism, ses articles, ses conférences et publications[6]. Carson a été président de The Gospel Coalition jusqu'au , date à laquelle Julius Kim a été choisi comme son successeur. Carson reste le principal référent théologique[7].

Carson a écrit et édité plus de 60 livres[8].
