Les Dugongidae sont une famille de mammifères de l'ordre des Siréniens. On en connaît une espèce actuelle, le Dugong (Dugong dugon), une espèce récemment éteinte, la Rhytine de Steller (Hydrodamalis gigas) et plusieurs genres fossiles.

Les genres Eosiren, Eotheroides, et Prototherium ont par le passé été attribués aux Halitheriinae ; toutefois, des analyses cladistiques récentes les placent en position basale par rapport au clade formé par les Trichechidae et les Dugongidae. De plus, le groupe des Halitheriinae est paraphylétique vis-à-vis des Dugonginae et des Hydrodamalinae ; son utilisation devrait donc être abandonnée, d'autant que le genre type repose sur une dent dépourvue de caractères diagnostiques^[8].
