modifierJeunesse et études
modifierBernard Adlin Pfriem nait le à Cleveland, de Charles Pfriem et Amanda Ketterer[1]. Il est, de 1934 à 1936, étudiant au "John Huntington Polytechnic"[1], puis entame au "Cleveland Institude of Art (en)" le cursus qui lui vaudra en 1940 son diplôme, auquel, la même année, s'ajoute la bourse annuelle « Agnes Gund Traveling Scholarship »[1].
De 1942 à 1946, il participe à la Seconde Guerre mondiale au sein de l'United States Air Force.

modifierEn 1959, Bernard Pfreim obtient une bourse de la fondation William Copley[1].

modifierBernard Aldine Pfriem a débarqué au bras du mannequin Maxime de la Falaise (et mère de Loulou de la Falaise), l’égérie de la créatrice de mode Elsa Schiaparelli, dans le petit village de Lacoste, auquel il était très attaché dans les années 1950[2]. Il a fondé en 1969 une école d'art à Lacoste, qui existe toujours sous le nom de Savannah College of art and design (SCAD) ; c'est en fait une antenne de Savannah Collège a Savannah.
