Wikipédia est un projet international de rédaction collective d'encyclopédie développé actuellement dans plus de 250 langues.
	Si vous désirez vous investir dans ce projet passionnant, vous êtes le bienvenu. Tous les contributeurs de Wikipédia vous invitent à corriger et développer les articles existants et à participer aux projets thématiques. N'ayez aucune crainte d'abîmer l'encyclopédie : toutes les modifications sont suivies par des contributeurs plus expérimentés qui pourront corriger vos éventuelles erreurs. Ne vous offensez pas de ces interventions ni des messages destinés à vous aider à comprendre le projet et ses règles. Suivez leurs conseils et n'hésitez pas à demander simplement plus d'explications.
	Lorsque vous contribuez, gardez à l'esprit que Wikipédia est une encyclopédie universelle, il faut donc veiller à respecter un point de vue neutre et vérifiable. De plus, le contenu doit rester conforme à notre licence d'utilisation libre (GFDL). Les utilisateurs travaillent en harmonie et privilégient la discussion aussi courtoise que possible pour régler les oppositions, aussi, prenez le temps de vous y habituer. N'essayez pas d'en faire trop au début : Wikipédia est un dédale où il est facile de s'égarer ! Un efficace « service de parrainage actif » peut vous mettre en contact avec des anciens prêts à vous guider dans vos débuts. Pensez à vous présenter également sur votre page d'utilisateur, ce qui permettra à chacun de connaître vos centres d'intérêt et de mieux vous guider vers les divers projets thématiques. Bien qu'il s'agisse d'un travail de rédaction complexe résultant de l'action de plusieurs dizaines de milliers de contributeurs francophones du monde entier, sa philosophie peut être résumée en quelques mots : « N'hésitez pas à l'améliorer ! »
	Au cours d'une discussion, n'oubliez pas de signer vos messages, à l'aide de quatre tildes (~~~~) ou du bouton présent en haut de la fenêtre de modification. En revanche ne signez pas les articles encyclopédiques lorsque vous en créez ou que vous les modifiez car l'historique permet de retrouver toutes vos contributions.

Re : Orthographic maps

Hello Addicted04. No problem for the English.

Well, where will we start? Graphic conventions, may be even more on cartographic subjects, are really difficult to harmonize through the the project (the local Wikipedias). I understood this when I tried that on Commons, opening a discussion for a world map projection standard and one for standard colors, this is after days and days of tests and research on my own and a months-long evolution in WP-fr itself. Almost nobody got interested, even calling people for participation, so after few months I closed the discussions. What's up next? In fact we kept in WP-fr those conventions, creating all our maps using them and, as we are dynamic, played on the contagion effect. And it worked! Few times later the also very active WP-de Cartographic Workshop adopted officially our convention (at least for the general maps at that time), together we made some minor adjustments, and after that: let's rock! Now this convention is widely used, these maps are translated with almost never any change on the color scheme, the use of the convention for topographic/physical maps also spread by its own through the local WPs, even without being set as “official”.

So what's all about? Trying to set a global convention will be really difficult, if not impossible, by discussion. My best advice would be to think very carefully by your own about the convention you want to set, open after that the discussion on your local WP with all of the Wikicartographers to get new ideas and make the necessary changes. I think you can open it too here for the WP-fr Workshop (open the discussion on one place) as they/we are usually opened for standards as they ease tremendously the work of creation afterwards. When that convention seems welcome for most of the actors, use it widely in your local WP. If it's good chosen convention, its use will spread by its own. If exist the same maps but with a different color scheme, upload them under a new name to avoid hurting people and get unexpected reverts.

Of course I don't want to give the impression to give lessons, but as I don't know your knowledge about graphics and cartography, just remember that the maps need contrast, without needing to be harsh; they must be readable at the display size they are used to be shown (in an infobox for this king of locator map for example), not only at full size. Keep also in mind, in general about the contrast and colors chosen, the difficulty for the eyes deficients.

My two cents opinion about your maps: I think it is better because of the dark border which eases the reading of the small elements. May be with a very slightly darker gray for the inner land, between yours and the one in use now, it may be even better on small size (better land-sea contrast).

Even if I check WP almost every day, I have to say I'm very few active for creation those months due to lack of free time, so I won't probably neither have time to contribute to this convention. Anyway: good luck!

Last point: don't open the discussion here on Projet:Cartographie as it's almost inactive, but on Discussion Wikipédia:Atelier graphique where you will encouter all the Wikicartographers.
