Circonstances de la composition

John Williams a d'abord composé en 2014 Scherzo, en s'inspirant de la pièce concertante pour piano et orchestre Burlesque de Richard Strauss. Sur la suggestion de David Allan Miller (en), chef principal de l'Albany Symphony Orchestra (en), il y a ajouté en 2021 un Prelude introductif.
