Faces is an international online community, which through a mailing list connects women activists, artists, critics, theoreticians, technicians, journalists, researchers, programmers, networkers, web designers and educators: a network of women who share an interest in the media and communication arts.

Faces was founded into 1997 by Kathy Rae Huffman, Diana McCarty and Vali Djordjevic in Austria. Faces list federates an international community, organizes exhibitions and meetings during the majority of the festivals and events art and media. Created to meet the needs for the growing number of women artists in the festivals and events art media, this mailing list is online : www.servus.at. The list is initiated in Vienna, during discussions in parallel to various media events, initially by e-mail, then by informal get togethers, dinners, and open mic sessions. Actually the list counts more than 400 members and gives rise to an international community. The list is always active today.

FACES in Paris in 2000 modifier

Faces in Paris in 2000 was a cyber-women presentation a non-stop demonstration of their works as party mode, on Friday, December 8 2000, 2:30 pm-7:30 pm at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris,14 rue Bonaparte, 75006 Paris.

Organized by Kathy Rae HUFFMAN, co-founder of the mailing list FACES, director of Hull Time Based Arts (England), & and Nathalie MAGNAN, media artist of the National School of Fine Arts, Dijon, moderators, in collaboration with Arghyro Paouri and the partnership with the C.I.D. - Mediathèque of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris (Ensba). That allowed to about thirty women from Europe, Russia, United States and Brazil, to share their projects, their exhibitions and critical texts. Followed by a dinner, this meeting generated many meetings and exchanges.

Celebrating 20 Years of FACES in Graz in 2017 modifier

In 2017, Faces celebrated its 20 years in Schaumbad in Graz [1] from October 13th to October 15th. Into preamble with this demonstration, Faces presented at Ars Electronica the panel “Feminist Climate Changes: Beyond the Binary".
