Debriefing modifier
"From the moment I decided to stay in Beirut, to testify to everything that happened there, my way of filming has changed. I took my camera and took pictures when I felt the echo of this large garden that disappeared. Even today, all my work is dominated by the search for this garden of childhood, of its idealized memory which inhabited me and still inhabits me entirely.
That's why I particularly like Beirut, never again: I film the walls, the streets, the places that are family to me with love and pain, pain to see that everything I loved is disappearing, but animated by the will and the need to preserve a memory.
With Beirut, never again, I broke the rules of editing, working with my editor Philippe Gosselet as for a four-handed score. I entrusted the text to Etel Adnan, the great Lebanese poetess who wrote the text which is, in my opinion, the most accurate text that has been written about the commitment, for oneself, not for others, and that It is very important to assume it in order never to betray oneself. I claim everything I have done in my life, because I did it freely. "
